Since 1980, Gert has been a self-employed artist. She works with ivory, stone, wood, and bone, and weaves traditional Unangan baskets. Her work has been shown internationally, and is included in collections owned by the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, British Petroleum, Ounalashka Corporation, the City of Unalaska, and Unalaska City Schools. As a weaver, she mentors at Camp Qungaayux^.
A retrospective of Gert's work is currently on exhibit at the Museum of the Aleutians. It opened on June 2, 2006, and is scheduled to run until mid-August 2006. See below, a few of her interesting traditional creations.
